The numerous U.S. Army Corps of Engineer and Texas-operated parks around Lake Whitney provide ample water-based recreational opportunities. Boating and water skiing are popular but, the lake is known for its excellent fishery. Striped bass and white bass can be found in excellent numbers throughout the lake. The ample open water habitat and strong forage base allow these fish to thrive. Good numbers of largemouth bass are also found and an occasional smallmouth bass may be found. Channel, flathead and blue catfish fishing is good within the lake.
